This is an ongoing film adaption of our folklore, Dream of Willow Tree. We distill from the folklore, key moments and expand them into live performances. Omens, both collective and individual, in particular inform the choreographies of the performances. The film translates the live performances into a series of cinematic vignettes played on loop. Devoid of a narrative structure, the film is cyclical in form and focuses on the poetics of movement.
The performances reimagine traditional rituals, exploring the intersection between the body, land, and the sacred. The sacred is transgressed. Historical canon and the original theology of ritual-based practices are subverted to reflect contemporary perspectives.
Movements evoke synchronic intimacy between performers. Land is interpreted as sites of meditation and disruption, but also as a living entity that possesses its own corporeality: rooting, floating, sinking, releasing, pushing, and pulling the body. Bodies react to land and it reacts back.
